Booked your break in the Caribbean and planning what to pack? Our handy guide will take you through the absolute essentials, as well as reminding you of all those little bits and bobs it’s so easy to forget.

As with packing for any holiday, you need to use your common sense and think about things like the weather, what you’ll be doing and local customs.

Clothes and shoes

Of course, your number one consideration when packing is going to be clothes. Now, the most obvious thing to think about here is the weather; broadly speaking, the Caribbean Islands all share a very similar climate, so this is pretty simple to address. Yes, there are small regional variations in terms of rainfall and such, but nothing major.

The Caribbean has a tropical climate and is split into the rainy season, which generally runs from May to October, and the dry season. The temperature is warm all year round – even in winter – getting steadily hotter in the summer months, though you won’t usually see the mercury go above 38 degrees C.

This may have you reaching for your skimpiest clothes, but before you pile your suitcase high with strappy tops and flimsy dresses or baggy shorts and t-shirts, you should remember that the Caribbean is prone to storms and showers. So, expand your wardrobe a bit.
