Telluride (from Wikipedia) is the county seat and most populous town of San Miguel County in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Colorado.[4] The town is a former silver mining camp on the San Miguel River in the western San Juan Mountains. The first gold mining claim was made in the mountains above Telluride in 1875, and early settlement of what is now Telluride followed. The town was founded in 1878 as “Columbia”, but due to confusion with a California town of the same name, was renamed Telluride in 1887 for the gold telluride minerals found in other parts of Colorado. These telluride minerals were never found near Telluride, but the area’s mines for some years provided zinc, lead, copper, silver, and other gold ores.
Telluride Colorado – Ski Resort
This small place has its very own ski resort which everyone is coming to visit. It has over 2000 acres of great skiing. Telluride has all the appropriate lifts and gondolas to get people up to the top of the mountain to ski right back down again. The center of Telluride town is still quite small and gives that lovely ‘home’ feel. Anyone who visit Telluride know probably why the stars are coming here to be the best. The scenic beauty is breathtaking and this will occur in spring and summer as well as in the snow laden winter months. In summer there is biking and hiking, horseback riding and anything to do with water too since the river is nearby. For those who want that down home feel though, staying in a studio or condo is probably the best thing to look for.
