Greece is a country that has been receiving a lot of bad press lately over the financial crisis that is causing a great of trouble to the country, as well as other members of the Euro.

From what you read in the papers, you might think that it seems to be all the fault of the workers in the country, but much of the responsibility should be borne by greedy speculators.

Despite all the turmoil the country is having financially, and the various protests that are occurring, Greece is still a very safe country to visit. Now is the perfect time to visit the country and you will be able to enjoy its magnificent history and hospitality of its warm people. Furthermore, it is a very affordable destination right now.

Santorini is regarded as one of the most beautiful islands in Greece, and that’s saying something, as there are over 1400 islands in the country which are inhabited. When visitors first arrive in the country one of the most noticeable things about the island is its vast array of colours. The way the sun strikes the buildings creates a magical effect that will lure travellers to the island.

There are two main areas of accommodation on the island, either on the beach, or in the city of Fira. If you’re looking for cheaper accommodation, then you should probably stay out of Fira as it is often visited destination by people who are coming to the island on a cruise ship.

Fortunately, you can stay in a smaller town, or near the beach, in cheaper accommodation and ride the excellent public transport into the city. For those who are feeling a bit more adventurous, it is possible to rent a motor scooter on the island.

There are numerous beaches on the island to satisfy all people and it would be well worth exploring many of them while you are on holiday here. There are also some fantastic small villages to explore which have an enormous amount of character and can be a lovely place to have an evening meal while watching the sunset over the ocean.
